The navigation menu
If you’re logged out you see the entries for logging in and register and also for “Startups” which leads you to the members directory when clicking on it. There is also the “Manual” entry leading you to this page.
When logging in for the first time you’ll notice the menu is changing a bit.
You will now see the links to your profile, the public pinboard and you’re able to read blogentries when clicking on “Blogs” and write blogentries on your own when clicking the little arrow next to “Blogs”.
Menu item “Startups”
When clicking on “Startups” you’ll see the whole members directory.
Feel free to look around and click on their profiles to get familiar with how everything looks like.
Previous to the members listing you see two collapsed entries named
“Search by City or Disctance” and
“Search by Services“
You can click on one of them and type in what you’re searching for.
“Search by City or Distance“
Type in the ZIP Code of the city you’re searching for and click “Search”. If there are any members located in that certain city they will be listed.
But you could also search by distance. Clear the ZIP code you’ve searched for and type in a value for the “km” (Kilometers) or “miles” for the area you want to search in. After that type in the name of the city you’re currently in to have a center for the search area.
Example:
25 miles of New York, USA
You’ll notice that the field “City” is autocompleting and giving you suggestions for the city you’re searching for.
Hint: If your current location IS the center of your searching area, just click the little marker next to the field. This will fill in the approx. point where you are now.
“Search by Services“
If you’re looking for a certain service no matter where it is located, for example a webdesign agency which could be located anywhere in the world to build your website, this is the solution for you.
Just type in “webdesign” (lowercase/uppercase doesn’t matter) and click “Search” and you’ll be prompted with each webdesign agency registered to our platform.
Hint: If you want to contact one of the site admins just search for the services “contact” or “help” or “admin” (without the “”). You’ll find us then.
Menu item “My Profile”
Your profile is where most of the magic happens!
Most of the stuff is self-explanatory, so please just click around and be curious!
But there are some things that aren’t so obvious, that’s what we’re talking about here.
Writing reviews
When moving your mousepointer into the top right corner of the banner of ANOTHER member you’re able to write a review about this member. Of course you should have used at least one of the services this member offers. If there is a huge amount of misusing this feature, it might get deleted.
Writing blogposts
You’re able to write as many blogposts about you and your services as you like!
Click the little arrow right next to “Blogs” and open the submenu. Now click on “Write Blog”.
There you are! Now write a blog entry. You can add images or small (and short) videos.
Give your blogpost a title and a category (your service “webdesign” for example), give it also 2-3 tags separated by comma like “webdesign, seo, hosting” and at last give it a featured image. That’s the image your blogpost will be shown with on several areas of the whole website. So this image might describe a little bit what the reader finds inside this blogpost.
Locations of blogposts
If you published a blogpost successfully it will be shown in this places of the platform:
- On your profile under “Posts”
- On the “Public Pinboard”
- On the “Blogs” page as the most recent blogpost
Menu item “Public Pinboard”
The Public Pinboard is similar to the Facebook timeline. Whenever something happens it will be published on the pinboard.
All those entries can be a bit overwhelming so it absolutely makes sense to filter them by your likings.
Find the “Quick Filter” bar right on top of the pinboard. This bar is dynamic. This means, if you don’t “follow” anyone, you don’t have the “Following” item in it.
Filter the pinboard by clicking on one of these items.
For more options to filter the pinboard use the “Filter” icon.
You’ll find the “Filter” icon to the left of the magnifying glass in the top right corner.
Click on it and you’ll see all the different categories you can use to filter the pinboard.
If you want to see only the entries with published photos, just filter by “Photos”.
Hint: “Posts” are also represented by photos, but to filter blogposts you need to set the filter to “Posts”
